Ft. Collins CCL volunteer Jim Danforth thanks Rep. Joe Neguse for the many ways he is taking action in addressing the devastating impacts of climate change on our forests, and he introduces readers to CCL and our preferred market-based solution — the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act.
Jim Danforth's LTE in the Loveland Reporter-Herald:
Colorado District 2 is fortunate to be represented in Washington by Joe Neguse.
While looking out for the people of Colorado, he found himself embroiled in the impeachment trial. He conducted himself with poise and confidence.
As a member of Citizens’ Climate Lobby, I look forward to the opportunity to work with Congressman Neguse to find solutions to our climate crisis. Our community group is recommending solutions to the market failures that currently plague our relationship with carbon based fuels. Our recommendations carry endorsements from both sides of the aisle, including former Nobel laureate economists, former Federal Reserve chairs, and energy and environmental research experts.
Meanwhile, Congressman Neguse is taking action on the devastation that climate change accelerated in the forests of our state. He helped secure a disaster declaration that will bring needed federal resources for our state. He introduced the Wildfire Recovery Act to boost the federal cost share to ease the burden of our local communities. He launched the Bipartisan Wildfire Caucus in Congress to bring attention to our issues. He has arranged a “Wildfire Summit” for noon Feb. 18 (RSVP at Neguse 2021.com). Sens. Bennet and Hickenlooper and Gov. Polis will attend.
If you were here in late summer, you experienced firsthand the heat and horrible air that forced us inside, while others had to evacuate and many lost homes, cars and life treasures. Our local emergency departments and ICU’s struggled to assist our neighbors and friends with lung and heart ailments exacerbated by the smoke. The presence of COVID-19 amped up even more the lethal consequences. We all must be part of finding and implementing solutions to this challenge.
